We are collecting for baby Marco and the Montiel family this year! Last year our family went to Bloom & Grow co-op where we made some wonderful friends – this year Lourdes joined the co-op and when we learned about their situation we decided it was a great match. Marco was born last December with Down Syndrome along with a couple other immediate complications. Although it was unclear in the beginning if Marco would make it, he has proven to be a fighter and he is thankfully doing better and has since been discharged home! Marco has a rare and complicated condition called Hyperinsulinemia where his body creates too much insulin and won’t properly manage his sugar which results in dangerously low numbers. They are in Lawrenceville and Marco has spent considerable time in Philly at CHOP.
Marco has been officially discharged after a successful G-tube and has been home since the end of February after almost two full months in the hospital. For the Montiel family, the next steps include a lot of learning, managing schedules, and new routines. Most helpful requests for the family include:
- Gas money / Wawa gift cards to help with travel for his many follow up appointments
- Since he has a G-tube, they need double zipper pajamas to access his line. Size 6 months and up or gifts cards for Carter’s
- ShopRite or Whole Foods gift cards
- CASH!! to help with monthly needs like diapers, groceries, and everyday essentials
